Resources Ask Clint Family & Dependants

Our 17-year-old has been working. Do we claim her or does she file?

Working teens and who reports the income.

Asked

I am curious how it all works. Our daughter is 17 (18 this month) and has been working most of 2023. So we claim her or does she do her own taxes.

Clint’s answer

She files her own taxes, and, if she were a dependant you would report her income on your return.
