I forgot to claim my dependant last year. Can I refile?

Adjusting a filed return and how far back you can go.

Asked

Tax professionals - I just noticed that last year I did not claim my dependant on my taxes. Is there a way to refile my 2022 taxes to include claiming my dependant? If so, how do I go about this? Thanks in advance.

Clint’s answer

When you say you didn't claim your dependent, what does this mean? Married couples don't get a benefit for dependent children, but single parents are allowed one to reduce taxes payable. If you have a dependent that has a qualified and accepted disability you can claim them as well as the CCC (Canada caregiver credit). If you're eligible in one of these scenarios you can file an adjustment request.
